🎉🎉 Here we go 🎉🎉
Excited to launch a new support group aimed at helping young riders and equestrians (aged 16-30) from under priveleged backgrounds in the North East create their own opportunities to start their journey within the Equestrian sport!
There are two areas I aim to focus on supporting, those who want to make it to the top of the sport, and those who want to work within the Equestrian industry.
It's becoming more and more apparent watching the Junior/Young rider/pony squad and talent pathways throughout the Olympic disciplines that the North East is lacking the representatives that are found in vast numbers throughout other areas of the UK. I believe that is because we live in an overall underprivileged area, not as such that we lack the talent, but that we lack the support system, knowledge and opportunities to really see our talent strive.
I have first hand experience of coming from a less privileged background and having to work hard for my opportunities, but I have also seen the reward in the form of programmes designed to support the talent. We just need some added steps in between to really help those talented individuals in our area meet the criteria with their experience and results to get onto these programmes.
What I am hoping to achieve is to help those who lack the funding/support system or real knowledge of how to get started on their journey by providing them with the tools off the horse, to start creating their own opportunities to succeed in reaching the top of the sport by really utilising their own environment and the support system they have around them. As well as supporting those who are looking to work within the equestrian industry and just unsure how to get where they want to go by matching them up with other professionals who can guide or offer opportunities to set them on the path to their dream! The professionals involved in offering support and experience into this group will all be within the age group, to really show what is possible with the correct help and support system around you!
I plan on offering a social evening once a month, where we can get together as a support network for each other, and talk about where you want your journey to take you in the Equestrian industry, whether that be in a ridden role, or as a highly skilled professional that keeps the cogs turning. Every role is a key role, its all about finding which is best for you! And then work through the individual barriers you face by setting goals, working towards qualifications, working on a training plan or listening to other young riders experiences within the different Olympic disciplines to give you some ideas of what you can do to help build your own toolkit up to succeed.
Alongside these evening, I also aim to provide opportunities to work one to one to build an idea of the steps you need to take within your own environment to succeed in reaching your dream.
